Google Meet hardware autoupdate policy

Google Meet hardware receives automatic updates that enhance both the device and the software on the device. However, hardware and technology advances eventually make devices out of date. For this reason, older Google Meet hardware cannot receive updates indefinitely to operating systems or other features.

Note: ChromeOS updates on Google Meet hardware are provided quarterly, so your device will always be at least one version behind the latest ChromeOS version.

Policy details

When a device reaches its End of Meet support date, the product model is obsolete and automatic software updates from Google are no longer guaranteed. Customers using expired devices don't get full support from the Google Cloud and Education edition teams. Business and education customers using expired devices may find that they can't manage their devices as expected using the Google Admin console or use new management features.

Google provides notice of a model’s End of Meet support date on this page, after launching the model. Software updates may be issued after the End of Meet support date, but never stop sooner than listed. Before their End of Meet support date, Google Meet hardware models get ChromeOS updates and function with management services.

Google is dedicated to certifying devices running the most recent Android versions for Google Meet. This commitment hinges on the ability of Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and System on a Chip (SoC) manufacturers to satisfy all prevailing certification requirements at the time of device submission.
It's worth noting that previously, prior to 2025 the displayed dates within the Admin console for Android Open Source Project (AOSP) devices may had been set to a default year of 2028 which will be updated consequently. Going forward, the information related to AOSP devices in the admin console, will align with this updated guidance.
