Replace the domain name for synced users

This page is for Directory Sync. If you’re using Google Cloud Directory Sync (GCDS), go to GCDS. Directory Sync is currently in public beta.

Using Directory Sync, you can automatically replace the domain name for synced users and groups in your Google cloud directory. If you do, following a sync, your synced Google users and groups have a different domain name than the domain used in your external directory. You can specify whether you want the domain change to occur for newly synced users and groups or new and previously synced users and groups.

Before you begin

Ensure that your new domain is verified in the Google Admin console. For details, go to Verify your domain.

Automatically replace the domain name

  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

  2. In the Admin console, go to Menu and then Directoryand thenDirectory sync.
  3. Click the name of your external directory.
  4. Click Global settings.
  5. Check the Automatically replace the domain in email addresses with the domain selected below box.
  6. Click the Down arrow  and select your domain.

The list shows only the verified domains.

  7. Choose an option:
    • Replace domains only for new users and groups synced—Previously synced users and groups won’t have their domains changed.
    • Replace domains for new and previously synced users and groups—All users and groups that are synced to your Google directory have their domains changed.
  8. Click Save.

The next time you run a sync, Directory Sync updates the domain for users and groups, depending on what you set up.
