Steps for flashing the Jamboard

  1. Download the device image from the previous link.

Remember where this file is downloaded to, as you will need to navigate to this directory later to install this image on the device.

  2. Plug the Micro-USB cable into the rear Micro-USB port on the Jamboard and connect it to your laptop.

Important: A red panel may be covering the Ethernet and Micro-USB port. You’ll need to remove the panel to access the Micro-USB port.

  3. Turn off the device.
  4. Wait for 5 seconds.
  5. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds, then release.

The device should load into the bootloader.

  6. Navigate to the Boot recovery kernel option using the volume button located on the back right side of the device.
  7. Press the power button to confirm your selection.
  8. Observe the device boot into the recovery kernel (there should be a broken Android droid icon or "No command" text displayed).
  9. Press and hold the power button. While holding the power button, click the volume up button to open the recovery kernel menu.
  10. When the menu appears, release both buttons (holding the power button too long will turn off the device).
  11. Navigate to apply updates from ADB and press the power button to confirm.
  12. Observe that the device shows the command line stating Now send the package you want to apply to the device with adb sideload <filename>.
  13. Open a new terminal on your laptop with the new device image.
  14. Navigate to the directory containing your device image zip file.
  15. From the directory, run
    adb sideload a40bffa0422296aa577c32d91fdf9f546301ce9c.zip

This is the file previously downloaded.

  16. Observe the image being installed on the device with a progress bar showing the install progress.

Warning: Do not unplug, turn off, or reboot your device. This might cause the device to be disabled.

  17. Once the install is done, the device will return to the recovery kernel menu. It is now safe to click the reboot system option.
  18. Observe the system reboots.

The device should reboot to the new Jamboard device image.

Tip: If the device does not load into the setup application, repeat step 5 and then select factory data reset.
