Update Your Google Voice Hold Audio

You can now customize the music that people hear when they're on hold with Google Voice. Add your own audio files or use text-to-speech.
You can also use Custom Hold Audio to provide helpful information such as your business hours, new products, or upcoming events. You can even reinforce your brand by using music or a message that matches your company's personality.

Before you begin

  • Google Voice supports common audio file formats like MP3 and WAV.
  • You might have a limit on the size of the audio file you can upload.
  • Make sure your audio is loud enough to be heard clearly, but not too loud.

How to update Hold Audio

  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

  2. In the Admin console, go to Menu and then Appsand thenGoogle Workspaceand thenGoogle Voice.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Click on the Hold Music section.
  5. Click Add Audio
  6. Choose an option:
    • Upload Audio File: Choose this if you have a pre-recorded message or music saved as an audio file (like an MP3).
    • Text-to-Speech: Choose this option if you want to type out your message and have Google Voice read it out loud. You can also choose different voices.
  7. Once you've added your audio, you can play back the individual audio elements to make sure it sounds OK.
  8. When you're finished, click Save.
Whenever someone is put on hold, they'll hear your custom audio instead of the default hold music.
