Find a user account

This article is for administrators who manage their organization's Google Workspace or Cloud Identity account.

To manage a user's settings, go to their account page in your Google Admin console. Here, you can do things like change a user's password, give them another email address, and more. There are several ways you can find a user’s Google Workspace or Cloud Identity account page.

To complete these steps, you need the appropriate User management privilege. Without this privilege, you won't see all the controls needed to complete these steps.

Open a user's account page from the Users list

  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

  2. In the Admin console, go to Menu and then Directoryand thenUsers.
  3. Locate the user in the list and click the name to open their account page.

Tip: If users are grouped in organizational units, you can find them more quickly by first selecting the organizational unit they belong to. You might need to click Open  at the upper left to see organizational units.

Filter the Users list

  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

  2. In the Admin console, go to Menu and then Directoryand thenUsers.
  3. Above the Users list, click Add a Filter.

  4. Choose an option:
    • Select a category to filter the list, such as First name, Last name, Email, and so on. Select an option or enter the filter text, and click Apply.
    • Start typing characters for the filter you want to use, such as a first name, last name, or username. When you see the filter you want, select it.
  5. In the filter results, click the name to open their account page.

Search for a user's account page

  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

  2. At the very top, in the search box, type the user's name or email address.
  3. In the list of matching accounts that appears, click an account to go to its page.

Search looks for addresses and first and last names that begin with your search text. It doesn't look for text in the middle or end of a word.

For example, if you search for bert, you'll get results for Bert and Bertrand, but not for Robert.

Find a user's settings when searching:

Narrow your search with search operators

Narrow your search for Google Workspace or Cloud Identity user accounts with these operators. At the top of the Admin console, in the Search bar, enter the operator, the equal (=) sign, and your search text.

Note: If the equal (=) sign doesn't work, try using a colon.

Operator Finds users... Examples
domain In a specific domain domain=example.com
email Whose email addresses match your search text [email protected]
givenName Whose first names match your search text givenName=rob
familyName Whose last names match your search text familyName=smith

Tip: Searches can return group accounts, too. If you use search operators, however, you must include the email operator to return any group results, as in email=marketing.

See all search operators.

Combine search operators

Enter two or more search operators to narrow your search even further.

Note: If the equal (=) sign doesn't work, try using a colon.

Example Finds users...
domain=example.com email=rob In example.com whose email addresses start with rob
domain=example.com givenName=rob In example.com whose first names start with rob
givenName=rob familyName=smith Whose first names start with rob and last names start with smith
domain=example.com email=rob givenName=bob In example.com whose email addresses start with rob and first names start with bob.
