This page is for administrators who manage groups for an organization. To manage groups for an account that ends in gmail.com, go to Google Groups help. Requires turning on Groups for Business
Sometimes, messages sent to members of a group made using Google Groups might bounce. And when messages bounce, they’re simply dropped. They are not sent to the group or returned to the sender.
Step 1: Find members whose messages are bouncing
View the Members list to find members whose messages are bouncing.
- Sign in to Google Groups.
- Click the name of a group.
- On the left, click Members.
A red triangle appears next to the Subscription column entry of members whose messages are bouncing.
Step 2: Stop messages to group members from bouncing
Fix server issues
Messages might bounce if:
- MX records are unavailable because of DNS issues.
- An email server is temporarily unavailable.
To fix server issues, verify your MX records and server status. If the Groups service detects that issues are resolved, members automatically exit the bounce state. Learn more about MX records.
Ask members to update their status
After you fix the issue, you can update your bounce status by following the instructions at Manage your subscriptions & global settings.
Restore disabled or suspended accounts
Messages might bounce if a sender's Google Account is disabled. When this happens, you'll see information like this in the email logs:
Recipient details | Bounced |
---|---|
[email protected] June 28, 2013 10:40:42 AM | The account [email protected] is disabled |
Messages might also bounce if Google Workspace accounts or Gmail accounts are suspended. Learn more about:
