Send usage & crash reports

Google Workspace Sync for Microsoft Outlook

You can help us improve Google Workspace Sync for Microsoft Outlook (GWSMO) by opting to send crash and usage statistics to Google. When first creating your profile in GWSMO, you can check the Send crash reports and usage statistics to Google box. While you're using GWSMO, we'll gather data that might help us improve GWSMO's performance or, in the case of a crash, prevent the problem from happening again. Check below for details about what information is sent.

Usage statistics

Usage statistics are sent periodically as you use GWSMO and contain no personal information, such as your name, email address, or email message content. Instead, the type of information we gather includes (but is not limited to):

  • The version of Microsoft Windows and Outlook you're using
  • Statistics about your computer such as disk space and memory
  • How often you use GWSMO and how long you leave it open
  • Your local mailbox size limit
  • Your usage of GWSMO's system tray menu and various dialogs
  • The GWSMO settings in your Windows registry

Crash reports

If GWSMO unexpectedly closes while you're using it, a crash report is sent to Google. This report can include personal data and system information, such as:

  • Your name or email address
  • The version of GWSMO you're using
  • Any associated files and services running when Outlook crashed
  • Data being processed during the crash, which might include contact or message information

View your crash reports

Each crash report sent to us is stored in a file on your computer. To open the reports and view exactly what data we're receiving from you:

  1. Go to C:\Users\your-user-name\AppData\Local\Temp (or %TEMP%).
  2. Open the file in a text editor. The crash report file name should be similar to ID.dmp, where ID is the crash ID.

Opt out of sending one or both reports

If you want to stop sending us either crash reports or usage statistics, you can modify your Windows registry by changing either of the following registry key values to 0:

  • Turn off usage stats:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\Google Apps Sync\UsageStats\UsageStatsEnabled
  • Turn off crash reports:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\Update\ClientState\{BEBCAD10-F1BC-4f92-B4A7-9E2545C809ED}\usagestats
How do I modify the registry?

Open the Registry Editor

  1. In the Start menu, click Windows Systemand thenRun.

Note: Alternatively, press the Windows key + R.

  2. In the Run box, enter regedit.
  3. Click OK.

Note: If you're using a 32-bit version of Outlook on a 64-bit version of Windows, enter %systemroot%\syswow64\regedit instead in the Run dialog.

Modify keys in the Windows registry

  1. Navigate to one of the following folders:
  2. To turn off usage stats:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\Google Apps Sync\UsageStats

    To turn off crash reports:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\Update\ClientState\{BEBCAD10-F1BC-4f92-B4A7-9E2545C809ED}

  3. Right-click the UsageStatsEnabled (for usage stats) or usagestats (for crash reports) key and select Modify.
  4. In the Edit DWORD (32-bit) Value box, under Value data, enter 0, then click OK to save the change.

Note: If you're running a 32-bit version of Outlook on a 64-bit version of Windows, you'll need to create this registry key in the correct location for 32-bit applications. For details, go to Using a 32-bit version of Outlook on a 64-bit version of Windows.
