Move texts, photos, and videos

Move your photos, videos, bookmarks and text messages from your old phone to your Android device in a few simple steps.

Transfer your mobile photos and videos

From an iOS device
  1. On your iOS device, download the Google Photos app from the Apple App Store.
  2. Sign in to the Photos app  with your Google Workspace account.
  3. In the top corner, tap Menu and then Settings and turn on Back up & sync.
  4. All your photos will save from your device to your Google Workspace account.
  5. On your Android device, sign in to the Photos app   with your Google Workspace account to see photos and videos from your iOS device.

Note: If you use Apple iPhoto on your Mac, any new photos taken with your Android device won’t be automatically uploaded to iPhoto.

From a Windows Phone or BlackBerry (use a USB cable)
  1. For BlackBerry phones, on your computer, open the BlackBerry Desktop software. For details, visit the BlackBerry website.
  2. Connect your Windows Phone or BlackBerry to your computer with a USB cable.
  3. Copy your photos and videos from your phone to your computer.
  4. Connect your Android device to your computer with a USB cable.
  5. (Optional) To organize your items in a folder, using your computer, create a folder on your Android device.
  6. Transfer your photos and videos from your computer to your Android device. For details, see Transfer files between your computer & Android device.

Transfer your mobile bookmarks

iOS devices and Windows Phone only

From an iOS device
  1. Make sure your Apple Safari bookmarks are being synced to iCloud.
    1. On your iOS device, go to Settingsand theniCloud and set Safari to On.
    2. When prompted, tap Merge.
  2. On your computer, open iCloud and sign in with your Apple ID.
  3. Check the Bookmarks box and click Optionsand thenChrome.
  4. Click Applyand thenMerge to merge your bookmarks.
  5. When prompted, download the iCloud Bookmarks extension for Chrome. Safari bookmarks are transferred from your iOS device to Chrome browser on your computer.
  6. Sign in to Chrome browser with your Google Workspace account to sync your browser data, including bookmarks, to your Google Workspace account.
  7. On your Android device, sign in to the Chrome browser app  with your Google Workspace account and open your bookmarks to find your favorite webpages. 
From a Windows Phone
  1. Make sure your Microsoft Internet Explorer bookmarks are syncing to Microsoft Cloud.
    1. On your Windows Phone, go to Settingsand thenSync my settings.
    2. Make sure Internet Explorer is turned on.
  2. Sync your bookmarks to your computer.
    1. Sign in to your computer with your Microsoft account.
    2. Open Internet Explorer.
    3. Next to Add to favorites, click the arrow and then click Import and export.
    4. Select Export to a file and click Next.
    5. Check the Favorites box and click Next.
    6. Select the folder that you want to export your favorites from and click Next.
    7. Choose the location and the name of the file where your favorites will be saved and click Export.
    8. Click Finish.
  3. Transfer your bookmarks from Internet Explorer to Chrome.
    1. On your computer, sign in to Chrome browser with your Google Workspace account.
    2. In the top-right corner of the browser window, click Menu and thenBookmarksand thenImport Bookmarks and Settings.
    3. From the list, select Microsoft Internet Explorer and select the items to import.
    4. Click Importand thenDone.
  4. On your Android device, open the Chrome browser app  and sign in with your Google Workspace account to see your bookmarks.

If you can't see your bookmarks on your Android device

  1. On your device, open the Chrome browser app  and tap Moreand thenSettingsand thenyour account nameand thenaccount you're signed in to.
  2. Make sure that Sync is turned on and the Bookmarks box is checked.

 

Transfer your text messages

iOS and BlackBerry only

From an iOS device

If you want to keep your iOS conversations, you can use tools from Google Play to transfer your SMS and MMS messages to your new Android device.

Important: Turn off Apple iMessage before getting rid of your iOS device. If you don't turn it off, SMS and MMS messages sent to you from other Apple devices might continue to be sent to your iOS device instead of your new Android phone.

Before you remove your SIM card from your iOS device

  1. On your iOS device, go to Settingsand thenMessages.
  2. Set iMessage to Off.

Note: If you no longer have your iOS device, you can deregister your phone number from iMessage. For details, visit Apple support

From a BlackBerry phone
If you want to keep your BlackBerry conversations but use the text messaging service on your Android device, you can use apps from Google Play to transfer your SMS and MMS messages to your new Android device.
