What’s new with TalkBack 14.2

Your experience with TalkBack 14.2 is improved with:

  • Grammar correction: To help you proofread.
  • Automatic image captioning: To help you know what’s in your photos.
  • Additional settings: To help you change speech rate and accessibility volume.
  • Additional braille tables: To help you read and write in more languages.
  • Additional braille commands: To help you move to the next keyboard and play or pause media.

Proofreading

The previous spellcheck typo correction feature is renamed as Proofread and now alerts you to grammar and spelling suggestions. To check for potential spelling or grammar issues, switch to the Proofread option in the reading controls.

Automatic image descriptions

You can receive automatic descriptions for images and automatic text and icon detection with automatic image description. You can set the level of description to be:

  • Don't describe icons/images
  • Unlabelled icons/images only
  • All icons/images

To turn on and control the level of descriptions:

  1. To bring up the TalkBack menu, tap with three fingers.
  2. Tap TalkBack settings and then Automatic descriptions.

Additional speech settings

You can control TalkBack’s accessibility volume and speech rate from TalkBack’s sound and vibration settings.

To change accessibility volume or speech rate:

  1. To bring up the TalkBack menu, tap with three fingers.
  2. Tap TalkBack settings and then Sound and vibration.
  3. Select the desired slider.
    • To increase the accessibility volume or speech rate, swipe up with one finger.
    • To decrease the accessibility volume or speech rate, swipe down with one finger.

New braille tables

The following new braille tables are added for use with the on-screen braille keyboard and braille displays:

  • Bulgarian eight-dot computer braille
  • Cantonese
  • Chinese Common (China)
  • Chinese current with tones (China)
  • Chinese current without tones (China)
  • Chinese (Taiwan)
  • Norwegian eight-dot computer braille
  • Romanian eight-dot computer braille
  • Turkish eight-dot computer braille

New braille commands

To help you switch to the next input method and to help you play or pause media, use the new braille commands with your braille display below.

  • Switch to the next keyboard: Space + dots 1, 3, 7 and 8.
  • Play or pause media: Space + dots 7 and 8.
