The YouTube Kids app works with Android's accessibility feature, TalkBack, which gives accessibility support for blind and low-vision users. Go to the Android Accessibility Help Centre to learn more, including how to turn on these settings.
Getting startedAfter you've turned on your Android accessibility settings, TalkBack and Explore by Touch can help you explore videos and settings in the YouTube app. Review the Explore by Touch instructions for more info about these features.
Once you've opened the app, you can use two fingers to scroll from right to left to view family-friendly videos, channels and playlists. Double-tap on any thumbnail to view the video or to explore the channel or playlist. Double-tap the 'back' button to go back.
Double-tap on the 'search' button and add your search terms to the 'Search YouTube Kids' edit box. To do a voice search, double-tap on the 'voice search' button and speak your search terms.
Once you've found a video to play, double-tap to begin playback. The video will automatically go into full-screen mode. Double-tap again to minimise a video during playback.
- Skip ad: Double-tap the 'you can skip ad' button to skip the ad before your video.
- Pause: Double-tap the 'pause video' button to pause the video.
- Next video: Double-tap the 'next video' button to play the next related video.
Below the video, find related videos that you can play.
By default, the auto-play setting is turned off. When auto-play is turned on, another related video will automatically play.
To turn on auto-play:
- Go to the watch page of any video in YouTube Kids.
- Double-tap the 'more options' button to navigate to the video options menu.
- Double-tap the 'Auto-play' button to turn on auto-play. Double-tap the 'Auto-play' button again if you want to turn auto-play off.
- Double-tap the 'Settings' button. It will be in the top-right corner.
- In the 'Parents only' menu that opens, enter the requested numbers, then tap the 'SUBMIT' button.
- Double-tap the 'Timer' button.
- Double-tap the 'subtract one minute' button or 'add one minute' button to set a time limit.
- Double-tap the 'START TIMER' button.
Send feedback about the app:
- Double-tap the 'Settings' button.
- In the 'Parents only' menu that opens, enter the requested numbers, then tap the 'SUBMIT' button.
- Double-tap the 'Feedback' button.
- Double-tap either 'HAPPY' or 'UNHAPPY'.
- Double-tap the 'SEND FEEDBACK' button, then enter your feedback.
- Double-tap 'Screenshot' to include one in your feedback.
- Double-tap the 'send' button.
Report an inappropriate video:
- Go to the video that you'd like to report.
- Double-tap the 'more options' button.
- Double-tap the 'Report' button.
- Double-tap the 'Inappropriate audio' button, the 'Inappropriate visuals' button or the 'Other' button.
- Double-tap 'REPORT'.
Clear watch and search history, watch it again, recommended and offline videos:
- Double-tap the 'Settings' button.
- In the 'Parents only' menu that opens, enter the requested numbers, then tap the 'SUBMIT' button.
- Double-tap the 'settings' button.
- Double-tap the profile icon for the child whose settings you'd like to update.
- Double-tap 'Clear history'.
- Double-tap the 'OK' button.
To turn off Search:
- Double-tap the 'Settings' button.
- In the 'Parents only' menu that opens, enter the requested numbers, then tap the 'SUBMIT' button.
- Double-tap the 'settings' button.
- Double-tap the profile icon for the child whose settings you'd like to change.
- Double-tap the 'Allow searching' switch.
Pausing your watch and search history will stop new video views and new search terms from influencing recommended content. To pause watch and search history:
- Double-tap the 'Settings' button.
- In the 'Parents only' menu that opens, enter the requested numbers, then tap the 'SUBMIT' button.
- Double-tap the 'settings' button.
- Double-tap the profile icon for the child whose settings you'd like to change.
- Double-tap the 'Pause watch history' and 'Pause search history' switches.
