Native ads are available on Open Bidding. Native ads are formatted to fit the surrounding content and visual design, making them more likely to be viewed and clicked by users.
How does Native on Open Bidding work?
Native ads follow a similar process to other ad formats on Open Bidding. You can maximize native demand for your inventory by creating yield groups with exchanges and ad networks which are eligible for native demand.
If an ad request matches a yield group and line item with overlapping targeting for a size or format, the yield group can only serve the overlapping parameter. This means native may not serve. Learn more about ad formats not serving.
- An ad request is triggered and information is passed to the Ad Manager ad server.
- Ad Manager runs the unified auction to select the winning bid.
- A native creative or Mediation list is returned to the publisher. The assets are then assembled into a native ad styled to fit the app or webpage’s design based on two different methods:
- Custom rendered: assets are sent to the publisher’s mobile app and are assembled according to the publisher implementation.
Open Bidding networks and exchanges which use 3rd party SDKs to render ads will respond with an SDK rendered ad instead of individual assets, similar to banner and video. Read the developer documentation. - Native styles: the publisher creates a native ad style and applies one of Ad Manager's pre-built native formats. Then, the assets are assembled by Ad Manager.
- Custom rendered: assets are sent to the publisher’s mobile app and are assembled according to the publisher implementation.
Get started
- Create a native yield group with exchanges and ad networks which are eligible for native demand.
You must already have a contractual relationship with that network or ad exchange.
- Target inventory for this yield group with Ad format "Native" and the appropriate inventory type.
