On October 8, 2018, Google will update the personalized advertising policy to require verification of all advertisers using political affiliation to target ads to users or to promote advertisers’ products and services in the United States. This policy applies to all personalized ads features, including political affinity audiences, in-market audiences, and customer match voter file targeting.
Political affiliation in personalized ads includes, but is not limited to, political ideologies, political opinions, political parties, political organizations, political campaigns, and engagement in political discourse.
Advertisers who are not verified will no longer be able to use political affiliation in personalized ads in the United States.
To be verified, advertisers must provide proof of identity, information about where they’re based, and confirm that they’re a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.
Learn how to apply for verification.
