In October, Google will update the Political content policy for election advertising in India as follows:
- Election ads in India are ads that feature a political party, political candidate or current member of the Lok Sabha or Vidhan Sabha, or any ads that are run by a political party, political candidate or current member of the Lok Sabha or Vidhan Sabha.
Election ads in India may run only if the advertiser is verified by Google. Advertisers who aren't already verified must initiate the verification process before running any election ads in India. Advertisers must also submit for each ad a valid pre-certificate issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI) or anyone authorised by the ECI.
For this policy update, advertisers will be able to apply for verification and submit their ad pre-certificates starting 9 October 2019. Google will begin enforcing this policy update on 15 October 2019. Learn more about verification for election advertising in India.
