[UA] Adjust sampling in reports [Legacy]

Change the sample size to adjust reporting precision and speed.
You are viewing a legacy article about Universal Analytics. Learn more about Google Analytics 4 replacing Universal Analytics.
This article is about Universal Analytics. If you're using a Google Analytics 4 property, go to [GA4] Understand how Analytics stores and displays data instead.

When sampling is in effect, you see a yellow icon next to the report title. Hover over the icon to see the sample size.

Sampling controls: Greater precision or Faster response
Sampling controls.

Below the message, you can select one of two options to change the sampling size:

  • Greater precision: uses the maximum sample size possible to give you results that are the most precise representation of your full data set
  • Faster response: uses a smaller sampling size to give you faster results

Your data automatically refreshes using the new setting. Your preference is saved across all of your reports, but resets when you switch views and when you close Analytics.

If no sampling is in effect (the report is based on 100% of sessions), then the icon is green.
