[UA] Create attributes for Dynamic Remarketing [Legacy]

Create dynamic attributes in Analytics based on the vertical attributes you added to your page tags.
You are viewing a legacy article about Universal Analytics. Learn more about Google Analytics 4 replacing Universal Analytics.

After adding vertical attributes to your page tags and creating your Remarketing Audiences, you need to create dynamic attributes based on those vertical attributes and link them to your Google Ads account.

In Google Ads, dynamic attributes may be referred to as parameters.

There is a limit of 100 Dynamic Attributes per Analytics property.

In this article:

Create Dynamic Attributes

  1. Sign in to your Analytics account.
  2. Click Admin, and navigate to the property in which you want to create the Dynamic Attributes.
  3. In the PROPERTY column, click Audience Definitions > Dynamic Attributes.
Dynamic Attribute Linking: Select Business Type, Analytics View, and linked ad account.
  4. Configure the following:
    • Under Business Type, select the vertical you want (for example, Retail or Flights).
    • Under View, select the Analytics view in which the Dynamic Attribute data is available.
    • Under Sharing, select the Google Ads account to which you want to link the Dynamic Attributes.
  5. Click Next step.
  6. Under Dynamic Attributes, select the vertical attributes you added to your page tags (see Example Dynamic Attributes for each vertical below).

For example, if you chose Retail as the Business Type, then you select attributes for that vertical like ecomm_prodid and ecomm_pagetype. If you chose Flights as the Business Type, then you select vertical attributes like flight_destid and flight_originid.
  7. Click Save.

You can create dynamic attributes for multiple verticals in a single Analytics property. For example, you can create dynamic attributes for both Flights and Hotels and rentals in the same Analytics property.

However, in each property, you can create only 1 set of dynamic attributes for each vertical associated with the same Google Ads Customer ID. For example:

Analytics Property Google Ads Customer ID Dynamic Attributes
Analytics Property 1 650-555-1212 Flights
Analytics Property 1 650-555-1212 Hotels and rentals

In the example above, if you try to create an additional set of dynamic attributes for Flights, Analytics will update the existing set rather than create a new one.

If you need multiple sets of dynamic attributes for the same vertical associated with the same Google Ads Customer ID in the same Analytics account, then you need to use a different property for each set; for example:

Analytics Property Google Ads Customer ID Dynamic Attributes
Analytics Property 1 650-555-1212 Flights
Analytics Property 2 650-555-1212 Flights
