Set up & use a Gamepad for Android TV

To play games on your TV or monitor, you can connect your Gamepad to your Android TV.

How to use your Gamepad

  • Home button Home: Return to the main screen.
  • Back button Back: Go back to the last screen.
  • D-Pad buttons: Move up, down, left, or right on the screen.
  • A button: Select your current item.
  • Power button Power: Hold the button for 3 seconds to turn off your Gamepad.

Note: If you don’t use your Gamepad for a few minutes, it’ll go to sleep.

Set up your Gamepad

  1. On the front of your Gamepad, press and hold the Power button Power. After 3 seconds, you'll see 4 lights flash.
    • If you don’t see the lights flash: For 5 seconds, press and hold Back Back + Home Home.
  2. From the Android TV Home screen, scroll down and select Settings Settings.
  3. Under "Remote and accessories," select Add accessory Add accessory.
  4. Select your Gamepad.

Gamepad won’t pair with Android TV

Step 1: Try to pair your Gamepad again

  1. Press the button on the bottom of your Android TV.
  2. For 5 seconds, press and hold Back Back + Power Power.
  3. If your Gamepad doesn’t show up on your screen, select it on the list with your remote.

Step 2: Restart your Android TV and Gamepad

  1. Unplug your Android TV for 10 seconds.
  2. Plug it back in.
  3. On the back of your Gamepad, remove the battery holder for 5 seconds.
  4. Put the battery holder back in place.
  5. Try to pair your Gamepad again.

Step 3: Reset your Android TV to factory settings

  1. Reset your Android TV to factory settings.
  2. Try to pair your Gamepad again.
