You can ask your Google Assistant to cast media to your Google Assistant smart TV, speaker, Smart Display, or Smart Clock. You can't play or cast videos on Smart Clocks, but you can ask a Smart Clock to play videos on a smart TV or Smart Display.
Important: The languages you can use depend on the device. Learn which languages work on your device.

Step 1: Connect a device to your Assistant
After you connect a TV, speaker, Smart Display, or Smart Clock, you can ask your Assistant to control that device.
Note: If you want to play media only on a Smart Display, you can skip this step. To use your Smart Display to control media on other Google Assistant devices, complete this step.
- On your phone, open the Google Home app .
- At the top left, tap Add Set up device.
- From here, you can add new devices or existing devices:
- New devices: Under "New devices," tap Set up new devices in your home.
- Existing devices: Under "Works with Google," tap Have something already set up? the manufacturer.
Step 2: Link music & video apps
Select apps you want to play music and videos from. For example, you can choose Spotify for music or Netflix for videos.
- On your phone, open the Google Home app .
- At the bottom, tap Home Settings .
- Under "Google Assistant services," tap Music.
- Choose a music service. For some services, you’ll be asked to sign in to your account.
- On your phone, open the Google Home app .
- At the bottom, tap Home Settings .
- Under "Google Assistant services," tap TV & video.
- Next to the app you want to connect, tap Link Link account.
Step 3: Play music & videos
Cast from an app
If you’re using a device with Chromecast, Chromecast built-in, or a Smart Display, you can cast from certain apps.
Note: Netflix doesn’t work with Smart Displays.
- Make sure your phone or tablet is on the same Wi-Fi network as your device.
- Open an app that works with Chromecast.
- Tap Cast .
- Select your device.
- When connected, you'll see Cast .
To stop casting, tap Cast Stop casting.
Use voice commands
Say "Ok Google" or "Hey Google," then tell your device what you want to play.
Play
- Play [song name] on [device].
- Play [song name] by [artist name] on [device].
- Play [artist name] on [device].
- Play [album name] on [device].
Note: These commands open your default music app. To use another app, add its name to the end of the command.
Browse (Smart Displays only)
- Show me songs by [artist].
- Show me albums by [artist].
- Show me relaxing music stations.
Control what's playing
- Pause.
- Stop.
- Resume.

Pause, skip, or change volume
- Next or previous: Next episode. Previous episode.
- Pause or resume: Pause. Stop. Resume.
- Skip or rewind: Skip back [time]. Rewind [time].

Use subtitles or change language (TV only)
Languages you can use depend on the video service and show.
- Subtitles: Turn on/off subtitles. Turn on/off captions. Captions on/off. Turn on/off Spanish subtitles.
- Spoken language: Turn on/off dubbing. Dubbing on/off. Play it in German. Change language to German.

- Play [station name] on [speaker].
- Play [frequency] on [speaker].
- Play [call sign] on [speaker].

Disconnect a TV, speaker, or app
If you no longer want the Google Assistant to control a TV or speaker, disconnect it.
- On your phone, open the Google Home app .
- At the bottom, tap Home your device.
- At the top right, tap Settings
- At the bottom, tap Remove device Remove.
- On your phone, open the Google Home app .
- At the bottom, tap Home Settings .
- Under "Google Assistant services," tap Music.
- From here, you can:
- Choose another service.
- Disconnect a service: Tap Unlink Unlink account.
- On your phone, open the Google Home app .
- At the bottom, tap Home Settings .
- Under "Google Assistant services," tap TV & video.
- From here, you can:
- Disconnect an app: Tap Unlink Unlink account.
- Choose another app: Tap Link Link account. Follow the steps to sign in.
