Google Nest Hub display accessibility settings

You can customize your Google Nest display through the Google Home app's accessibility settings.

Change accessibility settings

Audio

  1.  Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi or linked to the same account as your Google Nest display.
  2. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  3. Tap Favorites or Devices ..
  4. Tap and hold your device's tile.
  5. At the top right, tap Settings  and then Accessibility.
  6. Under "Audio," change the settings as desired.

Display

  1.  Ensure your mobile device or tablet is linked to the same account as your display.
  2. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  3. Tap and hold your device's tile.
  4. At the top right, tap Settings  and then Accessibility.
  5.  Under "Display," change the settings as desired.

Use the screen reader on your Nest display

When you turn on the screen reader, you can use gestures to navigate the screen and understand what's on it.

  • Explore items on the screen: Move one finger along the screen. The item under your finger will be highlighted and read aloud.
  • Know what's on the screen: Tap the screen with one finger.
  • Open or activate a selected item: Double tap the screen with one finger.
  • Select the next item and read it: Swipe right with one finger.
  • Select the previous item and read it: Swipe left with one finger.
  • Secondary action on an item: Double-tap with one finger and hold the second tap.
  • Adjust a slider: When the selected item is a slider, swipe up or down with one finger to move into slider adjust mode. To adjust the slider, swipe left or right with one finger to adjust its value. To return into default navigation mode, swipe up or down.
  • Go back to the previous screen: Swipe right with 3 fingers.
  • Navigate between screens: Swipe left or right with 3 fingers.
  • Open quick settings: Swipe up with 3 fingers.
  • Close quick settings: Swipe down with 3 fingers.
  • Start screensaver (ambient mode): From the Home screen, swipe right with 3 fingers.
  • Return to Home screen: From ambient mode, swipe left with 3 fingers.
  • Navigate to Home Control: Swipe down with 3 fingers.
  • Silence screen reader speech: Touch the screen with 2 fingers.
  • Silence Google Assistant speech: Touch the screen with 2 fingers. 

Learn what accessibility settings do

Audio options

  • Play start sound: You'll get a sound when your Nest display hears "Ok Google" or "Hey Google."
  • Play end sound: You'll get a sound when your Nest display is done listening to your request.
  • Audio descriptions: You'll hear a description of what's happening in a video.
    Note: This only works with videos that provide audio description.
  • Screen reader: Your Nest display will provide speech feedback when you tap the screen. 
    Note: The screen reader changes how your touchscreen and gestures work.

Visual options

  • Color correction: You can adjust the colors for your Nest display to help with color blindness.
  • Color inversion: Your screen colors will be reversed. For example, black text on a white screen becomes white text on a black screen.
  • Magnify screen: Triple tap the screen to magnify what's on the screen. To temporarily enable the magnifier, triple tap and hold with one finger.
  • Closed captioning: Set closed captioning for video content. 
    Note: Captions only work with videos that have closed captioning.
