On 1 October 2024, Google will charge 12 percent Value Added Tax (VAT) for Google Play Books purchases made by Kyrgyzstan users. This is due to a change in VAT laws in Kyrgyzstan.
This change applies to all paid books purchased by users in Kyrgyzstan, even if your business isn’t located in Kyrgyzstan. Your earnings on sales to users in Kyrgyzstan might be affected, as follows:
- Tax exclusive prices: If you provide tax exclusive prices for Kyrgyzstan, your revenue share for sales in Kyrgyzstan won’t change. This is because revenue share has always been calculated on a tax exclusive basis. However, users need to pay the tax so the effective price of your books will increase.
- Tax inclusive prices: If you provide tax inclusive prices for Kyrgyzstan, your revenue will decrease by around 12 percent for sales in Kyrgyzstan. This is because we’ll deduct the VAT from the list price before we calculate your revenue share.
- Both types of prices: If you provide both price types for Kyrgyzstan, we’ll use the tax inclusive price. When we receive both prices, we default to the tax inclusive version in all countries except the United States, Canada and Mexico.
