Tracking ads
Tracking ad impression costs are calculated using the standard impression rate: (Standard Ad CPM) * (Impression Count) / 1000.
Tracking ads click costs are calculated using the standard click rate: (Standard Ad CPC) * (Click Count).
If your tracking ad is used for both impressions and clicks, the fee being charged will depend on whether the placement received more clicks or impressions.
- In cases where clicks are lower than impressions, your campaign will be charged based on the impression count.
- In cases where clicks exceed impressions, your campaign will be charged based on the number of clicks minus impressions.
Calculate Tracking Ads
To understand how the tracking ads fee is calculated:
- From Reporting & Attribution, click Report builder, click New report > Instant reporting.
- Create New.
- Select your desired invoice month of service
- Add below dimensions
- Campaign
- Campaign ID
- Placement
- Placement ID
- Ad ID
- Ad type
- Creative Type
- Metrics
- Impressions
- Clicks
- Save and Run.
Per Placement and per Ad ID, subtract the number of tracking clicks from the number of tracking impressions. Be sure to include the "Ad Type" filter to exclude impressions that are not tracking ads.
Add up the results from instances where there were more tracking clicks per placement than tracking impressions. This result should be the number that shows up on the invoice line item.
How tracking ad impressions and clicks are displayed
Tracking ad impressions will appear on your invoice as "TRACKING AD IMPRESSIONS," and tracking ad clicks will appear as "TRACKING AD CLICKS."

Troubleshooting discrepancies
- Small discrepancies: Small variations in the numbers are usually a result of rounding.
- Missing impressions: If you find impressions in your reports but not on your invoice, the related fee might be too small to be included. This happens when the fee is below a certain minimum amount.
- Large discrepancies: If you find a large discrepancy between your invoice and reports, it might be because of publisher-paid costs, where Google bills publishers directly. To check this, add the "Payment Source" dimension to your report and filter for "Agency Paid" only.
