Back up your VR photos

You can restore your pictures if you get a new phone or reinstall Cardboard Camera. 

Store your photos

  1. On your Android phone, open Photos Photos.
  2. Tap Menu Menu and then Settings Settings.
  3. Tap Back up and sync.
  4. Turn on Back up and sync.

Restore your photos

From Google Photos

  1. On your Android phone, open Photos Photos.
  2. Tap the search bar.
  3. Search for vr.jpg.
  4. Tap a picture that you want to restore.
  5. Tap More More and then Download.
  6. Repeat steps 4-5 for all pictures you want to restore.

From other locations

Note: These steps don’t work for Chromebooks.

  1. Connect your computer to your Android phone with a USB cable.
  2. On your computer, go to your Android phone’s folder.
  3. Look for the "DCIM" folder.
  4. Inside the "DCIM" folder, copy your pictures onto the "CardboardCamera" folder.

Fix "This is not a VR photo"

You might see this message when you look at a picture backed up by a sharing or back up service. It means that the picture has been been changed and can no longer be seen in VR. If you still have the original, follow the steps in "From other locations."
