Cancel or suspend a Google Cloud billing subaccount (for resellers)

This article is for authorized Google resellers

When a customer no longer uses a billing subaccount, you can cancel the associated Google Cloud subscription.

Or you can suspend the Google Cloud subscription, for example, to suspend a customer's billing subaccount for delinquency. In rare cases, Google may issue suspensions due to potential violations of the Google Cloud Terms of Service.

Permissions required for this task

  • The Google Cloud Reseller Admin role on the reseller Google Cloud Billing account of the billing subaccount. Learn more

Cancel a customer's subscription

Canceling a Google Cloud subscription closes the associated billing subaccount. In the Partner Sales Console, the subscription is removed, and the billing subaccount status is Closed in the Google Cloud console. Note: Billing subaccounts can't be restored or reopened. You are billed for charges accrued before cancellation.

You can only cancel subscriptions that aren't linked to active projects.

Canceling a Google Cloud subscription stops all billable services (such as running VM instances or storage buckets) in projects linked to the billing subaccount).

If you have resources in associated projects that you want continue, link the projects to an active billing subaccount. Or you can turn off billing on the billing subaccount's associated projects.

  1. Sign in to the Partner Sales Consolewith your Cloud Identity or Google Workspace reseller account. Learn more.
  2. On the Customers page, select the customer's account.
  3. Select the Google Cloud subscription to cancel. Tip: Click the billing subaccount ID to view in the Google Cloud console.

  4. Change the subscription status to Canceled. Important: You can't switch the status back to Active or Suspended.


The subscription is removed from Partner Sales Console. In the Google Cloud console, the billing subaccount is set to Closed (clicking Reopen Billing Account shows an error message).

How suspensions work

When you suspend a Google Cloud subscription, you limit a customer's options without completely interrupting their active services. While suspended, the customer:

  • Can't create new virtual machines on Google Cloud projects associated with the suspended billing subaccount.
  • Can access and modify existing Google Cloud projects.
  • Can access and modify existing virtual machines on an active project.

Billing administrators on the billing subaccount receive an email informing them of the suspension along with details on why their account was suspended. You define the terms of use for a customer and are responsible for providing an acceptable explanation for the suspension. Your customers must work with you to remove the suspension.

Suspend a Google Cloud subscription

  1. Sign in to the Partner Sales Consolewith your Cloud Identity or Google Workspace reseller account. Learn more.
  2. On the Customers page, select the customer's account.
  3. Select the Google Cloud subscription to suspend. Tip: Click the billing subaccount ID to view in the Google Cloud console.

  4. Change the subscription status to Suspended. Billing administrators on the billing subaccount will receive an email about the suspension.

    In the Google Cloud console, the billing subaccount status is set to Probation and the alert, "Your billing account has been suspended by your reseller. Please contact your reseller to prevent service disruption".

Unsuspend a Google Cloud subscription

When you're ready to remove a suspension, you can reactivate the subscription. Lifting a suspension removes any existing limitations on owned Google Cloud projects. Billing resumes for projects linked to the billing subaccount.

If you can't remove the suspension, or have trouble doing so, contact Customer Support for help.

  3. Select the Google Cloud subscription to unsuspend. Tip: Click the billing subaccount ID to view in the Google Cloud console.

  4. Change the subscription status to Active. In the Google Cloud console, the billing subaccount status also changes to Active account.
