Tax exemption certificate rejected

Note: Google can’t advise you on tax matters. Please contact your tax advisor for any questions about this tax.

If you uploaded your tax exemption certificate but it was rejected, here are some reasons this might occur.

You submitted an IRS income tax exemption letter or W-9 form

IRS income tax letters are not acceptable for state sales tax exemptions. If you believe you qualify for an exemption, please submit a completed state exemption certificate.

You submitted a state license, permit, or other document

The document you submitted isn’t a valid exemption certificate. We can’t accept forms like state business licenses, permits, or Secretary of State documents in lieu of a valid exemption certificate. Please submit a completed exemption or resale certificate.

The name on your account doesn’t match the entity name on the certificate

The entity making the Google service purchase must be the same as the entity listed on the exemption certificate. The entity making the purchase is represented by the customer business name on your account. If the name on your certificate is correct, please work with your Google customer service representative to update the business name on your account.

The certificate wasn’t complete or was incorrectly filled out

Some examples of incomplete or incorrect information include the certificate not being signed, a box left unchecked, and so on. Please review the certificate for accuracy and completeness, and resubmit.
