To add someone to a direct message (DM) with two or more people in Google Chat, add them to the member list or mention them in the message.
Add people to a DM
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Chat app or Gmail app .
- In Gmail: At the bottom, tap Chat .
- In the bottom navigation menu, tap Direct messages .
- Open a DM.
- At the top, tap the conversation name.
- Tap Manage members.
- Tap Add people .
- Enter a name or email address tap Done.
Tips:
- To convert a DM with one person into a group DM, at the top, tap the conversation name Start a new chat.
- To quickly add a new person to a DM with two or more people, in the reply area, enter @ followed by the person’s name.
Remove people from a DM
Important: When you remove someone from a DM, they can't:
- Participate in the conversation.
- Check message history.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Chat app or Gmail app .
- In Gmail: At the bottom, tap Chat .
- In the bottom navigation menu, tap Direct messages .
- Open a DM.
- At the top, tap the conversation name.
- Tap Manage members.
- Next to the person’s name, tap More options Remove from chat.
