You can hide or delete a 1:1 conversation in Google Chat and Gmail.
- Hide conversation—Removes your copy of a conversation. It doesn't remove the conversation from other participants' views. If you hide a conversation and then chat with that person again, your chat history reappears (if it's turned on).
- Delete conversation—Permanently deletes your copy of a conversation's history. It doesn't delete the conversation from other participants' history. When you delete a DM, it deletes the DM content, but the data that indicates the instance of the DM remains in the backend.
You can also choose to edit or delete a specific message. If you edit or delete a message, it updates the message for you and other participants in the conversation.
