Use the GitHub app in Chat to get notifications about GitHub events, such as issues, pull requests, and comments.
Before you begin
- You need permission from your Google Workspace administrator to install apps.
- You need to add the app to Chat. Learn how to find apps and add them to Chat.
- You need a GitHub account.
Set up the GitHub app in Chat
- Open the Chat app .
- Open a direct message with the app or go to a space with the app.
- Tap sign in to your GitHub accountsign in to your GitHub account.
The configuration window opens. - Under Choose Repository, tap the Down arrow and select the GitHub repository to get notifications for.
- Under Thread messages by, select No threads or Repository.
- Check the boxes for the items you want to get notifications about in Chat.
- Tap Save.
Change app settings
In spaces, only the person who added the app can change the settings.
- Open the Chat app .
- Open a direct message with the app or go to a space with the app.
- Enter settings. In spaces, enter @GitHub settings.
The current settings for the app appear. - Tap Edit Settings.
The settings page opens. - Tap Edit change the settings as needed.
- Tap Save.
Removing the app from a space deletes the app settings.
Using the app in spaces
To use the app in spaces, you need to explicitly @mention the app in each message to the app (including in replies to messages from the app). The @mention confirms you're sending the message to the app and not to others in the space.
