Test new versions of Chrome Browser

Applies for managed Chrome Browsers (Windows and Mac).

Chrome Browser automatically updates with feature and security updates on Microsoft® Windows® and Apple® Mac® computers. To try a new version of Chrome Browser before rolling it out to your users, turn off automatic updates. Then manually download the new version to test it.

Temporarily turn off auto-updates

Important: While auto-updates are off, your users might not receive the latest security updates. In that case, you need to update users’ computers to the latest stable version of Chrome manually.

  1. Turn off auto-updates for Chrome Browser:
  2. Monitor Chrome Browser updates.
  3. When you see a new version of Chrome that you want to test, download the latest version on your test machines.
  4. Carry out any verification tests.
  5. After you’re done testing, turn on auto-updates. Follow the same instructions as above.

When Chrome Browser releases occur

Major version updates to the Stable channel of Chrome happen approximately every 4 weeks. Security fixes can happen more often.

Google gradually updates computers to new versions of Chrome over a few weeks. Sometimes it might take longer. If auto-updates are turned on for Chrome Browser, you don't need to do anything to get the latest version.

To keep track of Chrome releases, see the Chrome Browser update blog.
