Video chat using your Chromebook

You can join or make video calls to your family and friends on your Chromebook.

Update your Chromebook to the latest operating system. Download the latest version on your Chromebook.
Close browser tabs and apps that you're not using.
Use only one monitor. Two or more monitors can increase CPU/GPU load.
Use a well-lit room. Be aware that too much light can wash out faces and not enough light can cause shadows.

Centralised video call controls: One central place with system-level controls for all video call features, including a system-level mic and camera access control.
Privacy controls: Easily turn off camera and mic with one click.
Privacy indicators: See what apps are accessing your mic, camera or screen.
Return to tab: With a single click, you can be brought back to any tab or app that is actively accessing your camera, mic or screen.
Background blur: Detects you and blurs everything else with a light or heavy blur
Improve lighting: Detects the level of light and evens out lighting on you and your environment.
Camera framing: For wide-angle cameras only, this feature centres the camera and zooms in on you.
Noise cancellation: Detects noises that are not your speech and reduces them.
Mute nudge: You'll be notified if you talk while the mic is muted when you use certain apps, like video chat apps. This preference is synced across all of your devices.
- Tip: You need to opt in to this feature if you want to turn it on. Audio never leaves the device.
Create backgrounds with AI:
1. Open the video call panel.
2. Select image Create with AI .
3. Under 'Create with AI', you can:
  - Select a theme that you like.
  - Click on the underlined words to change to your preference.
4. Select the generated image that you like to apply as your background.
  - Your most recently used images are available under 'Create with AI' and on your video call panel.
