Create input shortcuts

You can customise the buttons on your input devices such as your mouse, keyboard and pen tablet. You can find all the categories of your connected devices on the 'Device settings' page. Each category has sub-pages where you can customise your devices.

Customise your keyboard settings

For each keyboard category, you can modify the following:

  • Built-in keyboard
    • Treat top-row keys as function keys
    • Enable auto-repeat
    • Remap keyboard keys
  • External keyboard
    • Convert F keys to ChromeOS top-row keys
    • Enable system/launcher key to switch the behaviour of the top-row keys
    • Enable auto-repeat
    • Remap keyboard keys

Remap keyboard keys

You can remap keys to change their function. To restore to default settings, select Restore defaults.

Customisable keys:

  • Modifier keys
  • Escape
  • Backspace
  • Caps Lock
  • Assistant (for some keyboards)
Customise your mouse button settings

To customise a button on any connected mouse:

  1. On your Chromebook, go to Device settings.
  2. Select Mouse and then Customise mouse buttons.
  3. Under 'Customise mouse button', you can:
    • Turn on or off Swap your left and right mouse buttons.
    • Click additional buttons on your mouse to add or locate buttons.

To edit a button name:

  1. Select Customise mouse buttons.
  2. Hover over the button name.
  3. Select Edit .
  4. Input the button name that you prefer.
  5. Select Done.

To assign an action to a button:

  1. Select Customise mouse buttons.
  2. Next to the button that you want to add an action to, select the drop-down menu.
  3. Choose an action for that button.
    • If you choose 'Key combination', you can assign keyboard shortcuts or a single key for mouse buttons.
      • In the 'Enter key combination' box, press and hold any modifier keys and one other key or a single key on the keyboard.
      • Release the keys.
      • Select Save.
      • If you want to edit the keys, select Edit .
Customise your pen tablet button settings

To customise a button for any connected pen tablet:

  1. On your Chromebook, go to Device settings.
  2. Select Pen tablet.
  3. Select either:
    • Customise tablet buttons
    • Customise pen button
  4. Under 'Customise pen button', you can:
    • Click additional buttons on your pen to add or locate buttons.
  5. To arrange the order of the buttons, select More More.

To edit a button name:

  1. Select either:
    • Customise tablet buttons
    • Customise pen button
  2. Hover over the button name.
  3. Select Edit .
  4. Input the button name that you prefer.
  5. Select Done.

To assign an action to a button:

  1. Select either:
    • Customise tablet buttons
    • Customise pen button
  2. Next to the button that you want to add an action to, select the drop-down menu.
  3. Choose an action for that button.
    • If you choose 'Key combination', you can assign keyboard shortcuts or a single key for tablet or pen buttons.
      • In the 'Enter key combination' box, press and hold any modifier keys and one other key or a single key on the keyboard.
      • Release the keys.
      • Select Save.
      • If you want to edit the keys, select Edit .
