You can customise your Android games that you download from Google Play to support your Chromebook keyboard for input.
Add keyboard mappings for the first time
- On your Chromebook, open a game downloaded from Google Play.
- At the top, select Game Dashboard .
- Under 'Controls', select Set up Add .
- On your screen, choose where you want to assign action:
- Single button: To assign an action to a single key.
- D-pad: To assign the actions to an on-screen virtual joystick.
- Ease of use: To label the button with the action, like 'Jump' or 'Shoot', select Button label and choose the label that you want to use from the drop-down menu.
- To add more keys, repeat from step number 4.
Check and edit key assignments
Check which keys you've assigned
- On your Chromebook, open a game.
- Select Game Dashboard .
- To turn Mapping visibility on or off, select Controls .
- If the 'Controls' icon is greyed out, they’re not set up.
- From the 'Game Dashboard' menu:
- To turn Mapping visibility on or off, select Controls .
- If the 'Controls' icon is greyed out, they’re not set up.
- Under 'Controls', to set up new mappings, select Set up.
- To check if you’ve already assigned keys, select Check.
Change a single key assignment
- On your Chromebook, open a game.
- At the top, select Game Dashboard or press Search + g.
- To open the mappings list, select Controls .
- Choose a key that you want to change.
- Select Edit .
- Select the key that you want to assign for the action.
Change a key assignment for the D-pad
- Under 'Toolbar', select one of your assigned keys.
- Select Edit .
- To remove a key assignment without reassigning, select Remove .
- Select a new key assignment.
Record your gameplay
You can record your gameplay and share it with your friends.
Important: If you start to record without changing your settings, your previous settings will remain. The device camera, device audio and microphone are automatically on.
- While you’re in game, at the top right, select Toolbar .
- Select either:
- Record game
- Take screenshot
Tip: To start to record or take a screenshot when you don’t have the game dashboard open, you can select Record game or Take screenshot.
Change game dashboard settings
Important: When you record for the first time, the device camera, audio and microphone are automatically on. You can change these settings in the recording settings right before you're about to begin a recording.
- At the top right, while you’re in game, you can start a recording with the toolbar or use the 'Game Dashboard' menu.
- Choose your preferred settings:
- Audio input: You can select either Off, Device audio, Microphone or Device audio and microphone.
- Camera: You can select either Off, Front camera or an external camera if one is connected to your Chromebook.
- Save to: You can select where your recording or screenshot saves, either on Downloads or Select folder.
- Your settings will be saved for future recordings in your login session.
