You can create rich content easily. You don’t need to switch contexts or use your mouse.
With Quick Insert, you can:
- Insert a link into a doc or chat without leaving your context.
- Get writing suggestions.
- Insert recently viewed YouTube videos and docs.
- Search for web links and YouTube videos without leaving your context.
- Attach files from your Chromebook without leaving your context.
Get started with Quick Insert
- On your Chromebook, open a doc or chat.
- To open Quick Insert, press the Quick Insert key .
- If your keyboard doesn’t have the Quick Insert key, press Launcher + f key or Google + f key.
- From the menu that opens, select from the default actions or begin to type what you want to insert. As you type, Quick Insert will provide suggestions. You can:
- Type in a web search.
- Select a recently searched image or YouTube video.
- Add emojis, emoticons, symbols, and GIFs.
- Get writing help with Help me write.
- Attach files from your Chromebook.
- To insert an item, highlight it and press Enter.
- The web link or image will be automatically inserted into the doc or chat you’re opened to.
Other ways to use Quick Insert
Search for content- On your Chromebook, open a doc or chat.
- To open Quick Insert, press the Quick Insert key .
- If your keyboard doesn’t have the Quick Insert key, press Launcher + f key or Google + f key.
- Type what you want to search for.
- You’ll find results from your Google Drive, your Chromebook, and the web.
- To find further results, next to the category you’d like to search, select See more.
- On your Chromebook, open a doc or chat.
- To open Quick Insert, press the Quick Insert key .
- If your keyboard doesn’t have the Quick Insert key, press Launcher + f key or Google + f key.
- Scroll down and select one of the categories, such as “Open tabs” or “GIFs.”
- In the new text box that opens, type what you want to search for.
- The results will only be within that category. For example, if you opened “GIFs,” your search will only return GIFs.
- On your Chromebook, open a doc or chat.
- To open Quick Insert, press the Quick Insert key .
- Type a prompt that explains the content you want created.
- Select the option that best matches the written content you want.

- You can edit the content or get further help from Help me write to improve the content.
- You can also often find Help me write when you open the Quick Insert menu.
You can set a key on your keyboard to be the Quick Insert key:
- On your Chromebook, at the bottom right, select the time.
- Select Settings .
- From the left side menu, select Device Keyboard and inputs Customize keyboard keys.
- Select the key you want to use as Quick Insert.
- From the dropdown menu, select Quick Insert.
