Back up photos from your camera

You can upload, view, and back up your photos from an SD card or USB device with Google Photos. If your photos are on an Android device, iPhone, or iPad, you can back up your photos to Google Photos directly from the device.

Step 1: Connect to your Chromebook

  1. Sign in to your Chromebook.
  2. To back up photos on an SD card, remove the card from your camera.
  3. In the SD card slot on your Chromebook, insert the SD card. If it’s a USB device, insert it into the USB port.

Tip: If you don't know which slot is the SD card slot, contact your Chromebook manufacturer. Not all Chromebooks have an SD card slot.

Step 2: Back up photos

  1. On your Chromebook, install the Google Photos Android app from the Google Play Store. Learn how to install Android apps.
    • If you get the option to “Allow Photos to access photos, media, and files on your device:"
      1. Select Allow.
      2. From “Back up & sync,”  select Turn on backup.
    • If you don’t get the option to “Back up & sync:”
      1. At the top right, select your Profile picture or initial.
      2. Select Photos settings and then Back up & sync.
      3. Turn on Back up & sync.
  2. In the left navigation bar, select On device.
  3. Select the folder you want to back up.
  4. Turn on Back up & sync.
