I got charged for too many users

Applies to Google Workspace, Cloud Identity Premium, and other paid services managed in the Google Admin console.

For questions about billing for Essentials users, see How billing works for Essentials.

If you purchased your service from a reseller, go here instead |  Do I have a reseller?

If you were charged for more users than you expected, try the steps below to learn about why this might be happening.

Look for suspended users

Suspended users are charged the same as active users. To search for suspended users:

  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

  2. In the Admin console, go to Menu and then Directoryand thenUsers.
  3. At the top of your user list, click Add a filter.
  4. Select User statusand thenSuspended and click Apply.
  5. If you have suspended users, you can:
    1. Restore a suspended user.
    2. Delete a suspended user.
    3. Leave a suspended user as is. You'll continue to be charged for this user.
  6. If you don’t have any suspended users, check for recently deleted users (steps below).

Check for recently deleted users

Important: If you're on the Annual Plan or the premium edition of Cloud Identity, your bill stays the same even if you delete a user. To reduce your commitment, you need to wait until your subscription renewal date. Learn more about reducing licenses.

When you delete a user, any outstanding charges for that user will appear on your next bill. To check for recently deleted users:

  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

  2. In the Admin console, go to Menu and then Directoryand thenUsers.
  3. At the top of your user list, click Add a filterand thenRecently deleted.
