After you add contacts to your Android device, you can make changes or delete them.
Contacts saved to your Google Account will sync with Google Contacts and all your Android devices.
Change contact details
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Contacts app .
- Tap the contact that you want to edit.
- At the bottom right, tap Edit .
- If asked, choose the account.
- Enter the contact’s name, email address and phone number.
- To enter more information, tap More fields or the down arrow .
- To change the photo for a contact, tap the photo, then choose an option.
- Tap Save.
Add a contact to your favourites
You can put people that you're often in contact with at the top of your list.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Contacts app .
- Tap the contact that you want to add to your favourites.
- At the top, tap Favourite .
Delete contacts
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Contacts app .
- Select an option.
- A single contact: Tap the contact. At the top right, tap More Delete Delete.
- Multiple contacts:
- Touch and hold a contact and then tap the other contacts.
- Tap Delete Delete.
- All contacts: At the top right, tap More Select all Delete Delete.
- Your deleted contacts are moved to your bin.
- After 30 days in your bin, contacts are deleted permanently.
- To delete contacts permanently, in your bin:
- Single contact: Tap the contact Delete forever Delete forever.
- Multiple contacts:
- Touch and hold a contact and then tap the other contacts.
- Tap More Delete forever Delete forever.
- All contacts: Tap Empty bin now Delete forever.
Recover deleted contacts
If you deleted a contact in the last 30 days, you can move it out of your Bin.
- To open the Bin, you need to have automatic sync turned on. Learn how to turn on automatic sync for Google Contacts.
- Bin is only available when your device is online. If your device is offline or doesn’t have a network connection, it won't load until you go online.
Important: If the deleted contact wasn’t stored in your Google Account, you can’t recover it. Learn how to back up your contacts to your Google Account.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Contacts app .
- At the top right, select the Google Account that has the contact that you moved to the bin.
- At the top left, tap Menu Bin.
- Select an option.
- A single contact: Tap the contact Recover.
- Multiple contacts:
- Touch and hold a contact and then tap the other contacts.
- Tap More Recover.
- All contacts: Tap More Select all More Recover.
Undo changes to contacts
You can undo any changes that you made to your contacts during the past 30 days, all at once.
Important: Contacts deleted permanently from your bin can't be recovered.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Contacts app .
- At the top left, tap Menu Settings.
- Under 'Manage contacts', tap Undo changes. If asked, choose which Google Account you want to change.
- Choose a time to go back to.
- Tap Confirm.
Tip: When you restore contacts to a certain time, such as one week ago, any contacts added after that time won't appear. Learn how to export your current contacts and add them back later.
Block contacts
When you block a number, you will no longer receive calls or text from that number. If a contact has more than one number, all phone numbers associated with that person will be blocked.
You also can report them as a spammer.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Contacts app .
- Tap the contact that you want to block.
- At the top right, tap More Block numbers Block.
- Block only one number: press only on the number.
- Spam caller: tick the box for 'Report as spam'.
To unblock a contact, tap More Unblock numbers Unblock.
View blocked numbers
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Contacts app .
- At the top left, tap Menu Settings Blocked numbers
