About CS First

Overview of CS First

This video will show you what CS First is all about in addition to the information below.

CS First is an easy-to-use computer science curriculum designed for students in grades 4-8 (ages 9-14) that is free of charge.

This program can be used by teachers in the classroom or by parents for at-home learning.

CS First uses video and text instruction to teach kids coding basics with Scratch for CS First, a special version of the Scratch coding editor inside the CS First website.

CS First is available online at https://g.co/csfirst.

How CS First works

  1. This video will show you how to set up an account, a class, and what CS First is all about.

  2. Set up an account if you want to track your students' work.
  3. Set up a class online. Anyone can teach CS First - no computer science experience is required.
  4. CS First provides the curriculum and materials.
  5. You (or someone else that you delegate) lead the CS First class. Lesson plans and other resources are available for you to use.

Minimum requirements to host a CS First class

Anyone can run a class anywhere as long as you have:

  1. Computer for you and your students. Tablets are not recommended.
  2. Stable internet (See our tips for what to do if you have slow internet or no internet).
  3. Headphones (recommended but not required).
