Save data using Datally

Get the Datally app to use less mobile data. With Datally, you can control which apps use mobile data while in the background (i.e. not actively in use).

Important: Datally is no longer available on the Play Store.

Datally works on Android versions 6 to 10.

Start saving data

Save mobile data by choosing which apps use your data.

Important: If you block data for an app and aren't connected to Wi-Fi, the app or its features may not work as expected, or at all.

On your Android phone, open the Datally app .
Tap Manage data.
Turn on Save mobile data.
Tap Allow OK Open Settings.
Turn on Allow display over other apps.

Change which apps use data

Option 1: In Datally

On your Android phone, open the Datally app .
Tap Manage data.
Tap Apps with low usage.
Select any app that you want to change
Tap Turn off.

Option 2: In an app

When Data Saver is turned on, apps that are open can use data. Closed apps don't use data in the background.

Fix problems

You can't set up Data Saver

You might not be able to set up Data Saver if:

You didn't give Datally VPN access.
Other apps on your phone use a VPN.
Some apps on your phone, such as those that control screen brightness, have a certain setting turned on.

Step 1: Turn on VPN in Datally

On your Android phone, open the Datally app .
Tap Set up Data Saver Allow OK.

If you still can't set up Data Saver, try the steps below.

Step 2: Turn off VPN for other apps

On your Android phone, open the Settings app .
Tap Network & Internet Advanced VPN.
Next to the VPN that you want to turn off, tap Settings .
Tap Forget VPN to turn it off.
Open the Datally app .
Tap Set up Data Saver Allow OK.

Step 3: Adjust apps that affect your screen

On your Android phone, open the Settings app .
Tap Apps & notifications Advanced Special app access Display over other apps.
Tap any apps that control other apps, such as changing screen brightness. Then, turn off Draw over other apps or Display over other apps for each of these apps.
Open the Datally app
Tap Set up Data Saver Allow OK.

You want to move or hide the bubble in an app

To move the bubble in an app, touch and hold it, then drag it.

To hide or show the bubble in an app:

On your Android phone, open the Datally app .
Tap Bubble tracker Show bubble.

Tip: To hide the bubble in a specific app, touch and hold it, then drag it down.

You can't find the bubble in an app

If you can't find the bubble, try the following steps:

On your Android phone, open the Datally app . Then, check that Data Saver is turned on.
Open the Settings app turn on Data Saver.
Check that you’re connected to a mobile network.
To make sure that you’re using mobile data, in the Settings app :
- Tap Mobile data to turn it on.
- Tap Wi-Fi to turn it off.
- Tap Aeroplane mode to turn it off.
Turn off any accessibility services, such as screen reader.

Note: If the app that you’re using hasn’t used any mobile data, you won’t be able to access the bubble.

You started saving data in some apps, and now your phone isn't working

On your Android phone, open the Datally app .
At the top left, tap Menu Settings.
Tap Reset which apps use data Reset.
