Feature availability
- This feature is available through our early access testing program, Google Workspace Labs, which is an invite only program for users to try new AI features.
- To check if you have access to Workspace Labs features, open Google Vids. A window to help you start creating in Vids will appear if you have access. Learn where you can use Workspace Labs features.
- For users with access to Workspace Labs, note that new features for Vids are rolling out gradually, and may not be available to you yet.
In Google Vids, use “Help me create'' to create a first draft video from prompts you write with Gemini. Your prompts can help Gemini to:
- Generate:
- An editable outline storyboard
- Suggested scenes with suggested text
- Script narrative for videos and voice overs
- Select:
- Suggested stock video or images, which can be kept or swapped with your media
- Suggested accompanying stock music, which can be kept or swapped with your media
Create a video with AI
Important: New features for Vids, such as “Help me create,” roll out gradually and may not be available to you yet.
You can create a video with Gemini in Google Vids using “Help me create.” Enter a prompt, then you can type the “@” symbol to add related documents. Once you’ve submitted your request and all related documents, Vids will generate:
- A suggested outline, with suggested scenes populated with generated text
- Stock media, including videos, images, and music
- A scripted narrative to make edits and record voiceovers with
Video placeholders are also suggested in relevant scenes to help organize where to add your own video recordings.
Important:
- New features for Vids, such as “help me create,” roll out gradually and may not be available to you yet.
- Vids generative AI features, such as "help me create" and read-along teleprompter, are only available in English at this time.
- On your computer, open Google Vids.
- At the bottom of the screen, click Create new video Help me create .
- Enter a prompt or click a suggested prompt.
- To improve the output quality of your video, you can add related files: Enter
@
, then add the file name or select from the list of suggested files - To generate new suggested prompts, under the list of text prompts, click Shuffle .

- Click Next.
- After your outline has been generated, to edit it, update the tiles that represent each scene.
- To edit the scene prompt, click the title text for a scene.
- To remove a tile, click Delete .
- To add a new tile below, click Add .
- To rewrite your prompt, type a new prompt to generate a new outline, click Try again.
- Once you have a final outline, choose a design for your video:
- To preview samples, hover over a design.
- Click to select a design.
- To confirm, click Create the draft video.
- After you create your video, you can continue to edit or customize.
- Tips:
- To open the scripts panel and view or edit your generated scripts, click Scripts.
- In your video, you may find media placeholders.
- Circular media placeholders contain stock voiceovers. You can replace this with live voiceovers
- Larger media placeholders include an “Add your media” tag. You can replace this with your own media.
- To find more options for media, click Select a video to open a drop-down menu which includes:
- Upload
- Help me create an image
- My media
- Stock media
- To add media from the recording studio and add a recording, click Recording .
- To keep the media originally added to the placeholder, click Keep video.

When writing prompts:
Use natural language - Write like you talk
- Express thoughts in full sentences
Be specific - Provide as much context as possible.
- Attach relevant documents. Use the @ symbol and descriptive prompts to specify details like audience, purpose, and goals.
Make it a conversation - If the results don’t meet your expectations or you believe there’s room for improvement, fine tune your prompts.
- To yield better results, use follow-up prompts and an iterative process of review and refinement.
