Save places you’ve marked on the globe, shapes you’ve created, and tours you’ve designed. Then, share them with others.
Save place info to your computer
You can save placemarks, tours, and other info to your computer's hard drive.
Windows & Linux
- Go to earth.google.com.
- Click Add placemark.
- In the upper right corner, you’ll find a note that you’re in edit mode.
- Additionally, there's a blue pin marker that will appear on the map that indicates the pin you’re about to create.
- Left click wherever you want to create a placemarker.
- Click Save to project.
- After you press "Save to project," you’ll find an edit card where you can change the name and description of the feature. This is optional but we highly recommend you add-in the name and any relevant or useful info.
- When you’re done with all your edits, export your KML by either:
- Click three dots Export as KML file.
- Click File Export as KML file (Ctrl + E).
Tips:
- If you want to edit the name or description, click on the feature and you can edit the name or description as you want.
- Once your feature is created, it’s added under the project on the left hand panel.
Mac
- Open Google Earth.
- In the left-hand panel under "Places" "My Places," click Ctrl + left mouse key.
- Click Save Place As.
- In the box that opens, in the "Save as" field, type the name of the file.
- In the "Where" field, choose a location to save to from the drop-down list.
- Click Save.
- Google Earth will save the file as a .kmz file, which includes the KML file.
Note: If you want to save memory and help Google Earth run faster, save the files to your computer, then delete them from Earth.
Share info with others
You can let your friends, family, and coworkers see the places you’ve visited and the info you’ve gathered in Google Earth.
Email Google Earth files
- Open Google Earth.
- In the left-hand panel under "Places" "My Places," click the placemark, tour, or other item you want to email.
- At the top, click File Email choose an option.
- In the box that opens, choose your default email account or your Gmail account.
- Fill out the email. Note: You can edit the pre-filled message in the body of the mail.
- Click Send.
