You can use Family Link to check your child's device use, screen time and content recommendations. If you turn on app activity data sharing, you also get insights into your child's app use, like reading activity.
Find highlights
- Open the Family Link app .
- Select your child.
- Tap Highlights .
Find Teacher approved apps
You can find Teacher approved apps and install them to your child's device from your device. Learn more about Teacher approved apps.
- Open the Family Link app .
- Select your child.
- Tap Highlights.
- Under "Teacher approved," swipe through the approved apps.
- To get more information, tap the app you want.
- To install your child's device, tap Install.
Get reading insights
If your child's account is set to share its app activity data for Google Play Books and has Google Play Books activity to display, the highlight tiles display in the Family Link "Highlights" tab. This info helps you check what your child reads and how often they interact with books.
Parents can check:
- Recently read: The most recent book your child has read and how much they've completed.
- Recently opened: The book your child has most recently opened and how much they've completed.
- Most read: The book your child has read the most in the last 7 days and how often they read it.
- Recently completed: The book your child has most recently completed and when they completed it.
Manage reading insights
You can turn on or off reading insights generated from Play Books activity.
- Open the Family Link app .
- Select your child.
- Tap Controls Account settings Highlights settings.
- Turn Highlights from Google apps on or off.
Let your child turn Highlights from Google apps on or off
You can also let your child change their app activity setting themselves when they turn on "Also allow your child to change this setting." Your child can find the setting on their device.
- On your child's device, open Parental controls .
- Tap View all parental controls.
- Tap Controls Account settings Highlights settings.
- Turn Highlights from Google apps on or off.
Tip: When you turn Google app activity on, your child gets an email and in-app notification.
