How to transfer Google Fi service to a new device

If you want to use a different phone, you can add it to your Google Fi account. Your service continues on your new phone and your phone number remains the same.

Your previous phone remains on your account as an inactive device. You can continue to use it with a data-only SIM.

How to transfer Google Fi service to a new Android phone

Important: With Google Fi, you can't transfer Android eSIM between Androids. You can manage transfer and configuration in the Google Fi app.

To transfer an eSIM:

  1. On your new phone, download the Google Fi app.
  2. Open the Google Fi app .
  3. Sign in with the Google Account you used to sign up for Google Fi.
    • If needed, install an update. After your phone updates and restarts, to continue phone setup, return to the app.
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to start your number transfer.

To transfer a physical SIM card:

  1. Remove the Google Fi SIM card from your current device or purchase a new one.
  2. In the SIM tray of your new phone, insert the Google Fi SIM card.
  3. On your new phone, download the Google Fi app.
  4. Open the Google Fi app .
  5. Sign in with the Google Account you used to sign up for Google Fi.
  6. To activate service on your phone, follow the on-screen steps.
How to check if the Messages & Google Fi apps are up to date
  1. Click the link of the app.
  2. Select Update.
    • If there isn’t an “Update” button, your app is up to date.
