Manage line separation in case of domestic abuse

Google Fi is committed to supporting survivors of domestic abuse and helping them maintain critical access to reliable, safe, and affordable connectivity.

  • If you’re a group member, you can leave a Google Fi group plan at any time without needing to contact support.
  • If you’re the group owner, you can remove a group member for your plan at any time without needing to contact support.

Separating lines of service

Important: When you leave a group plan, the notification to the group owner occurs immediately after you complete your transfer or port-out. When you remove a group member from a plan, the notification to this member occurs immediately after they are removed. When you do this, make sure you are in a safe location.

We can also walk you through this step-by-step and answer any questions you may have. If you want assistance with transferring mobile lines off an account due to domestic abuse, including transferring the accounts of individuals in your care, contact us via this form.

You’re required to provide either:

  • A copy of a signed affidavit from a:
    • Licensed medical or mental health care provider
    • Licensed military medical or mental health care provider
    • Licensed social worker
    • Victim services provider
    • Licensed military victim services provider
    • Employee of a court, acting within the scope of a person’s employment
  • A copy of a:
    • Police report
    • Statements provided by police, including military, Tribal police, magistrates, or judges
    • Charging documents
    • Protective or restraining orders
    • Military protective orders
    • Any other official record that documents the covered act

If you are also transferring the account of an individual in your care, you will be required to provide a signed and dated affidavit stating that the individual is:

  • In your care
  • A user of the specific line to be separated
Leave a plan as a group member

Any manager or member can leave a group plan without permission from the group owner.

  1. On your device, open the Google Fi app Fi or sign in to fi.google.com.
  2. Select Manage plan and then Leave Google Fi.
    • If “Leave Google Fi” is unavailable, for more help, select Contact us.

A child’s account can’t leave the group on their own. To ask for assistance with separating the account of an individual in your care who is under the age of 13, use this form.

When a group member leaves a plan:

  • If you’re a group member, you can transfer your phone number to another Google Fi plan, Google Voice, or another provider.
  • If they have a financed device, the leftover balance is charged to the group bill and the owner pays the balance.
  • If the group member's device is enrolled in Google Fi device protection, its enrollment is discontinued.

For more information about leaving a Google Fi plan, you can check Leave a group plan or remove members.

Remove a member from a group

To remove a group member:

  1. Open the Google Fi app Fi or sign in to fi.google.com.
  2. Under "Manage plan," select the group member to remove.
  3. Select Remove.

Each user you remove gets an app notification and email with their Google Fi account transfer info.

The member you remove has 60 days to transfer their number to:

  • Another Google Fi plan
  • Google Voice
  • Another provider

If the group member doesn’t transfer their number after 60 days, we automatically release their phone number.
