Important: Before you can use the service internationally, you must activate and use Google Fi in the US. Territories are not included for this service. Exceptions apply to military and State Department employees who serve abroad. If eligible, verify your government status.
Check if Google Fi supports your phone model
With Google Fi, most popular phones are compatible. If you’re unsure if your phone is compatible with Google Fi, check your phone’s compatibility.
Use unlocked devices with Google Fi. If you buy your phone from Google Fi or the Google Store, it’s already unlocked.
If you’re unsure if your phone is unlocked, contact your carrier or where you bought it.
Set up Google Fi on iPhone
Start activation on the Google Fi app
Important: You must start your device activation within the app. Download the Google Fi app and tap it to open.
- On your device, download the Google Fi app .
- The Google Fi app performs device and compatibility checks.
Start your eSIM activation
If you’re on an iPhone XS or newer, to set up service, download an eSIM.
- On your iPhone, connect to a Wi-Fi network.
- Sign in to the Google Account connected with the phone number you want to use.
- To set up your phone number and download an eSIM on your iPhone, follow the in-app instructions.
- To set up your connectivity, return to the Google Fi app .
- Update your network settings:
- On the device you want to activate, open the Settings app.
- Tap Cellular Cellular Data Network.
- In your “Settings” field, enter these texts:

Tip: The iPhone out-of-box eSIM transfer experience isn’t supported by Google Fi. If you activate service on a new iPhone, skip the carrier step of the iPhone setup wizard. To set up service, download the Google Fi app.
Start your pSIM activation
If you’re on an older iPhone which isn’t eSIM-compatible, to set up service, order a physical SIM card.
- If you haven’t already, order a SIM kit.
- Insert the physical SIM into your iPhone.
- Download the Google Fi app .
- To set up your phone number and activate service on your physical SIM, follow the in-app instructions.
- To set up your connectivity in the Google Fi app, finish all instructions in the app.
Make sure you sign in to your Google Fi account and not another Google Account. If you sign in to the wrong account, scan a new code:
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app.
- Tap Cellular the plan you want to erase Remove Cellular Plan.
- Delete the current eSIM from the device.
- Sign in to the correct account.
- Scan a new QR code.
If the QR code doesn't work:
- Delete the current eSIM.
- Reload the QR code page.
- Scan the new QR code.
If you don't have a second device, you can activate a Google Fi eSIM on iPhone using the phone only method:
- On the device you want to use Google Fi on, sign in to Google Fi.
- Select eSIM Don't have a computer?
- Follow the instructions on the Google Fi app.
- Call someone.
- Send a text.
- Test your data. To make sure your data works, turn off Wi-Fi.
If you’re transferring your number to Google Fi, it can take up to 24 hours before you can send or receive text messages.
If features don't work 24 hours after you finish activation and have a phone number with Google Fi, contact Google Fi support.
- We expand your coverage in places where the mobile network isn’t as strong so that you can make calls over Wi-Fi.
- When this feature is in action, your device displays “Wireless ."
- When you get close to or reach your monthly data budget, Google Fi sends you alerts to turn notifications on or off.
