How to be eligible for Google Fi

Get a supported Google Fi phone & SIM
  • When you sign up, you can buy a designed for Google Fi phone or use a Google Fi phone that you already purchased.
  • Your Google Fi phone arrives with a Google Fi SIM card. The SIM card allows the device to connect to the Google Fi Network.
    • If you have a Pixel 2 and up, you don't need a SIM card.
Go to an eligible location
  • You can activate Google Fi service in most US zip codes. Check if you live in a zip code where we offer service.
  • After you activate your service, you can access our network as represented by our coverage map
  • To check on your coverage, go to your common destinations. For example:
    • Your home
    • Office
    • School
    • Stops along your commute
  • If you live in the US, you can use Google Fi’s service. This isn’t intended for extended international use.

Most accounts on Google can be used with Google Fi. These include accounts:

  • With "@gmail.com" email addresses.
  • That uses your own domain name, like work or school accounts.
  • With "@yahoo.com" or "@hotmail.com" email addresses.

Check your dedicated Google Account for work or school

If you have a work or school Google Account, also known as Google Workspace, your administrator must first turn on Google Fi and Google Payments. Otherwise, to use Google Fi, sign up with a new Google Account.

Add a US home address

For payments, your Google Account needs a US home address. In checkout, add your payment info when you make your Google Account’s first purchase.

Check the age eligibility

To sign up for Google Fi service, you must be 18 or older. If you're 13 or older, you can join a Google Fi group plan with an owner that's 18 or older. You can also add a child to your Google Fi account.

Provide a valid form of payment
You can pay for your Google Fi service through an automatic monthly payment. When we check if your payment method is active, we may place a temporary authorization hold on your account.

How to transfer to Google Fi

Transfer from current phone service

Important: Check the status of your account with your current carrier. If you're under contract and you leave your contract early, there might be early termination fees. If you have any questions, contact your current carrier.

  • If you plan to transfer your number, do not cancel your current service until:
    • You set up your Google Fi phone.
    • The number transfer is finished.

How to make payments on Google Fi

Learn about group plans

You can add up to 5 friends and family members to your Google Fi group plan for a total of 6 people. For everyone on your plan, you can pay the bill, track data used, and change settings. All group members must be on the same plan type. Learn more about Google Fi Plans.

You can apply to pay for your Google Fi phone over time. This likely requires a credit check. Learn how to pay through monthly installments.

Learn about device protection

If you buy a Google Fi phone, you can enroll in device protection. You can do so at the time of purchase or within 30 days after it ships.

With device protection, you can get a replacement beyond the one-year manufacturer's warranty. Device protection covers mechanical breakdown or accidental damage like drops, cracks, and spills.

When you sign up, to verify that your payment method is active and valid, Google Fi may place a $0.10 USD authorization hold.

Authorization requests aren’t charges and you don't pay for them. Depending on your bank, holds may last up to 14 business days. If they remain longer, contact your bank.
