About GFiber self install

Depending on your address and the GFiber plan you select, you may be eligible to self install your internet and phone service. There are two kits available:

  • Self install kit for GFiber (internet service)
  • Self install kit for Google Fiber Phone (phone service)

Below, you’ll find everything you need to know about these kits and how to self install GFiber.

How to self install your internet

Self install is an option for some customers with GFiber internet plans and/or Google Fiber Phone. If you're eligible to self install your internet, that means we’ve already installed external equipment and a Fiber Jack in your home.

(For more information about your Fiber Jack and how to find it, check out the video below.)

Self install requirements

Self install requires no tools and minimal technical skills. Everything you need to install GFiber in your home is in your self install kit (including instructions on how to set it up). You can also find the installation instructions for your router and Google Fiber Phone on our Help Center:

  • Additional Mesh Extenders (these are optional)

What's in the Google Fiber Phone self install kit?

When can you expect to receive your self install kit?

After you sign up, you'll get an email that will let you know when you can pick up your kit from a GFiber Space if there’s one in your area (typically, it’ll be on the same day).

If there’s no local GFiber Space or if you prefer to have your kit shipped to your home, we'll send you an estimated delivery date and a tracking number for your package. Typically, you can expect to receive the self install kit within one to three business days of placing your order.

How long should a self install take?

A GFiber self install could take up to one hour to complete. (This includes installation, setup, and any software updates that your equipment might need.)

When will you be billed for service?

Billing for your internet service starts when your router (included in the self install kit) or Phone Box (included in the Google Fiber Phone self install kit) is activated, or seven days after delivery — whichever happens first.

Delivery options

If you're eligible for self install, there are three ways to get your kit:

  • Have it shipped to your home address
  • Have it shipped to a different address
  • Pick up the kit from your local GFiber Space (if there’s one in your area)

You can select which option you prefer when you sign up. After an order is placed, it should take about one to three business days for the self install kit to arrive.

Package signature (this is optional)

If you decide to have a self install kit shipped to your home, you can ask the carrier to require a signature from you or someone else at the delivery address (or from a building manager or neighbor) when the package is delivered. To choose this option, check the box labeled Require signature for delivery when you sign up.
