Share your files with Quick Share on Files by Google

You can use Quick Share to send and receive files from devices close to your location.

What you need

Receive files from nearby devices

Important:

  • If you share files between your own devices with the same Google Account, the device that receives it automatically accepts the transfer.
  • If you share files from the clipboard of your own device, the files are automatically copied when someone receives it.
  1. On your Android device, open Files by Google Files by Google.
    • If a file has been shared with you, at the bottom of your screen, you can find a notification.
  2. Tap Receive .
  3. From the Quick Share notification, tap Accept or Decline.

Share files with nearby devices

  1. On your Android device, open Files by Google Files by Google.
  2. Open the file you want to share, or to select multiple files, touch and hold.
  3. Tap Share Share and then Quick Share .
    • You can also tap More More and then Share and then Quick Share .
    • Make sure the device you want to share with is nearby so your device can search for it.
  4. Tap the device you want to share with.
    • If you can’t find the device, make sure it has set up “Who can share with you” and its screen is unlocked.
    • If the device you want to share with isn’t listed, you can also share your file with a QR code. Learn how to use QR code with Quick Share.
  5. To accept your sharing request, wait for the other device.
    • To cancel an in-progress transfer, tap the same device again.

Tips:

  • While the transfer is in progress:
    • You can leave the screen, and the transfer continues.
    • A notification shows in your notification tray when you exit the sending screen. From that notification, you can check the status, cancel, or go back to the transfer screen.
  • To select multiple receivers, tap more than one device.
    • Due to technical constraints, only certain device models support simultaneous sharing.
    • In other cases, the transfer queues and receivers you select later can get the transfer request when previous transfers are completed.
