You can save files received using the peer-to-peer sharing feature in the File by Google app directly to your SD card.
- On your Android device, open Files by Google . Learn how to check your storage space.
- At the top left, tap More Settings .
- Turn on Save to SD card.
- You'll find a prompt that asks for permissions. Tap Allow.
- If your internal storage runs out of space when you save a file: You'll be prompted to save all incoming files to your SD card instead. Tap Save to SD.
- If 'Save to SD card' is turned on and your SD card runs out of space when you save a file: You'll be prompted to save all incoming files to your device instead. Tap Save to internal storage.
Tip: If you remove the SD card mid-transfer, you find a “transfer failed” prompt and the transfer is cancelled.
Troubleshooting: SD card undetected issue
If you can't find your SD card in Files by Google:
- On your device, open your Settings.
- Tap Device maintenance Storage.
- Check if your SD card has been recognised.
- If the SD card isn't recognised in Settings: Remove and reinsert the SD card.
- If the SD card is recognised in Settings but not in Files by Google: The SD card may be formatted as internal storage. Learn how to format an SD card as a portable storage.
