Move or copy files to your SD card

You can move or copy files to an SD card on your device.
Files by Google works on Android version 5.0 and up. If you don’t have the app, you can download it from the Play Store.

Move or copy files from Categories section

  1. On your Android device, open Files by Google Files by Google
  2. Under "Categories," select a category.
  3. Find the file you want to move or copy.
  4. At the top right, tap More More and then Move to or Copy to.
  5. Tap SD card.
  6. If you want to move or copy files to a new folder:
    1. Choose where you want to create a new folder, then tap Add new folder.
    2. Enter folder name in the pop-up.
    3. Tap Move to folder or Copy to folder 
  7. If you want to move or copy files to an existing folder:

    1. Choose the folder you want to move or copy the file to.
    2. Tap Move here or Copy here.

Move or copy files from Storage devices section

  1. On your Android device, open Files by Google Files by Google.
  2. Under "Storage devices," tap SD card.

  3. Find the files you want to move or copy in the selected folder.

    • To move or copy one file:
      1. Next to the file, tap More More.
    • To move or copy multiple files:
      1. At the top right, tap More More and then Select.
      2. Next to each file you want to move or copy, check the circle.
      3. At the top right, tap More More and then Move to or Copy to.
  4. If you want to move or copy files to a new folder:
    1. Choose where you want to create a new folder, then tap Add new folder.
    2. Enter folder name in the pop-up.
    3. Tap Move to folder or Copy to folder.
  5. If you want to move or copy files to an existing folder: 
    1. Choose the folder you want to move or copy the file to.
    2. Tap Move here or Copy here.

Move files through clean tab

  1. On your Android device, open Files by Google Files by Google. Learn how to check your storage space.
  2. Tap Menu Menu and then Clean Clean.
  3. On the "Move to SD Card" card, tap Select files.
  4. Select which files you would like to move.
  5. Tap Move to SD Card.

Troubleshooting: SD card undetected issue

If you don’t find your SD card in Files by Google:

  1. On your device, open your Settings.
  2. Tap Device maintenance and then Storage.
  3. Check if your SD card is recognized.
