You can move or copy files to an SD card on your device.
Files by Google works on Android version 5.0 and up. If you don’t have the app, you can download it from the Play Store.
Move or copy files from the Categories section
- On your Android device, open Files by Google .
- Under 'Categories', select a category.
- Find the file that you want to move or copy.
- At the top right, tap More Move to or Copy to.
- Tap SD card.
- If you want to move or copy files to a new folder:
- Choose where you want to create a new folder, then tap Add new folder.
- Enter folder name in the pop-up.
- Tap Move to folder or Copy to folder

If you want to move or copy files to an existing folder:
- Choose the folder to which you want to move or copy the file.
- Tap Move here or Copy here.
Move or copy files from the Storage devices section
- On your Android device, open Files by Google .

Under 'Storage devices', tap SD card.

Find the files that you want to move or copy in the selected folder.
- To move or copy one file:
- Next to the file, tap More .
- To move or copy multiple files:
- At the top right, tap More Select.
- Next to each file that you want to move or copy, tick the circle.
- At the top right, tap More Move to or Copy to.
- To move or copy one file:
- If you want to move or copy files to a new folder:
- Choose where you want to create a new folder, then tap Add new folder.
- Enter folder name in the pop-up.
- Tap Move to folder or Copy to folder.
- If you want to move or copy files to an existing folder:
- Choose the folder to which you want to move or copy the file.
- Tap Move here or Copy here.
Move files using the clean tab
- On your Android device, open Files by Google . Learn how to check your storage space.
- Tap Menu Clean .
- On the 'Move to SD card' card, tap Select files.
- Select which files you would like to move.
- Tap Move to SD card.
Troubleshooting: SD card undetected issue
If you can't find your SD card in Files by Google:
- On your device, open your Settings.
- Tap Device maintenance Storage.
- Check if your SD card has been recognised.
- If the SD card isn't recognised in Settings: Remove and reinsert the SD card.
- If the SD card is recognised in Settings but not in Files by Google: The SD card may be formatted as internal storage. Learn how to format an SD card as a portable storage.
