When you use automatic tracking, Google Fit records your activity for you. Automatic tracking gives you credit to help you reach your fitness goals for everyday activities like a brisk walk or your choice to take the stairs.
How automatic tracking works
How we protect your data
You're in control
Google Fit uses sensors on your device to collect data about your physical activity, like distance and steps, even when the app is closed. You can find that data in your daily and weekly activity stats or your journal. If you enable automatic tracking, Google Fit uses your device's sensors to recognize workouts that you don't manually track, such as when you walk or cycle on your daily commute.
Google Fit provides you accessible analytics, tracking, and activity history. Your Google Fit data is securely stored on Google servers. If you lose or change your device, your data is backed up on Google servers.
When you set up Google Fit on your device, you can choose whether to turn on automatic tracking. You can always turn automatic tracking on or off at any time.
You can also export or delete your activity data at any time.
