How do I use a voice assistant on my Fitbit smartwatch?

Check the weather, set timers and alarms, control your smart home devices, and more by speaking to a voice assistant on Fitbit Sense, Fitbit Sense 2, Fitbit Versa 2, Fitbit Versa 3, and Fitbit Versa 4.

How do I set up a voice assistant on my Fitbit smartwatch?
Amazon Alexa Built-In
  1. From the Today tab  in the Fitbit app, tap your profile picture  your device image.
  2. Tap Voice Assistant  Amazon Alexa  Sign in with Amazon.
  3. Tap Get Started.
  4. Create or log in to your Amazon account.
  5. After completing all the steps, tap Close to return to the Voice Assistant tile.
Google Assistant (Sense and Versa 3 only)
  1. From the Today tab  in the Fitbit app, tap your profile picture  your device image.
  2. Tap Voice Assistant  Google Assistant  Activate Google Assistant. If you don't have the Google Assistant app on your phone, you're prompted to install it.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to create or log in to your Google account, and then connect your Google account with Fitbit.
  4. After completing all the steps, tap Close to return to the Voice Assistant tile.

Note that you can have only 1 active voice assistant at a time. To switch to a different voice assistant, first disconnect your active voice assistant. For more information, see How do I disconnect my voice assistant? 

How do I interact with a voice assistant on my Fitbit smartwatch?
  1. Open the Alexa app  or the Assistant app  on your watch.
    Note that the Fitbit app must be running in the background on your phone.
  2. Say your request. Your voice assistant responds with text on-screen and through the watch's speaker with Sense, Sense 2, Versa 3, or Versa 4.
    • To adjust the speaker volume, tap the speaker icon (Alexa) or  (Google Assistant)  - icon or + icon.

You don't need to say "Alexa" or "Hey Google"/"OK Google" before speaking your request. For example:

  • Set a timer for 10 minutes.
  • Set an alarm for 8:00 a.m.
  • What's the temperature outside?
  • Remind me to make dinner at 6:00 p.m.
  • How much protein is in an egg?
How do I check the alarms, reminders, and timers I set with a voice assistant on my Fitbit smartwatch?
Amazon Alexa
  1. Open the Alexa app  on your watch.
  2. Tap the alerts icon  in the top right, and swipe left or right to navigate between alarms, reminders, and timers.
  3. Tap an alarm to turn it on or off. To adjust or cancel a reminder or timer, tap the Alexa icon  and say your request.

Note that the alarms and timers you set with Alexa are separate from those you set in the Alarms app  or Timer app .

Google Assistant
Open the Alarms app  or Timer app  on your watch to find alarms and timers set with Google Assistant. To see your reminders, open the Assistant app  and ask, "What reminders do I have?"

How do I change the language my voice assistant recognizes?
Amazon Alexa
  1. From the Today tab  in the Fitbit app, tap your profile picture  your device image.
  2. Tap Voice Assistant  Amazon Alexa.
  3. Tap the language you're currently using, and then choose a new language from the list.
Google Assistant

Google Assistant uses the same language as your phone, if it's supported. To change the language Google Assistant uses, change the language setting on your phone. For instructions, see:

Is my voice assistant always listening?
No. The microphone in your watch only turns on when you activate it, for example by opening a voice assistant app. The microphone turns off when the voice assistant responds, when you close the voice assistant, or when your watch's screen turns off.
Does Fitbit collect or use my voice data when I use a voice assistant?
No. Fitbit doesn't collect any voice data or audio clips from your watch.
How do I enable more skills for Alexa on my Fitbit watch?

For added functionality, install the Amazon Alexa app on your phone. With the app, your watch can access additional Alexa skills.

Add the Fitbit skill to ask Alexa to open the Exercise app or start a workout for you.

  1. In the Amazon Alexa app on your phone, find the Fitbit skill.
  2. Tap Enable.
  3. Log in using your Fitbit account credentials and give permission for Alexa to access your profile and data.

To ask Alexa to open the Exercise app on your watch, set up the Fitbit skill for Alexa. For more information, see How do I enable more skills for Alexa on my Fitbit watch? These commands are currently available in English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, and Japanese.

Note that saying "Alexa" or "Hey Google"/"OK Google" doesn't activate your voice assistant on your watch—you must activate your voice assistant before the microphone in your watch turns on.

What should I do if my voice assistant doesn't work on my Fitbit smartwatch?
Problem Solution
The Alexa or Google Assistant tile doesn't appear in the Fitbit app. Alexa and Google Assistant on your Fitbit device are only supported in certain countries. For more information, see Which countries and languages are supported by Google Assistant and Alexa Built-in on Fitbit?
I can't sign in to my Amazon account during setup.
  1. Clear the cookies on your phone:
  2. Try again to set up Alexa in the Fitbit app.
"Connection Lost" error
  • Keep your phone within 30 feet of your watch.
  • Open the Fitbit app on your phone and sync your watch. The Fitbit app must remain running in the background on your phone for your voice assistant to work.
  • If you use Google Assistant and have an iPhone, the Google Assistant app must remain running in the background on your phone as well.
"No Internet" error Your phone must have an internet connection, either through Wi-Fi or a cellular data signal.
"Set Up Alexa" error Follow the instructions in How do I set up a voice assistant on my Fitbit smartwatch? If you already set up Alexa, sync your watch.
When setting an alarm or reminder with Alexa, my time zone is incorrect. To change the time zone Alexa uses, follow the instructions on amazon.com.
When I ask Alexa for directions, Alexa can't get my exact location.

Turn on location services:

  1. Allow the Fitbit app to use your phone's location. Follow the instructions in How do I use GPS on my Fitbit device?
  2. Allow Alexa to use your phone's location. Follow the instructions on amazon.com. In the Amazon Alexa app on your phone, make sure Location services is On, and Device Location is correct. Tap either setting to change it.

Note that not all countries support location information.

The reminder I set with Alexa doesn't show whether it's recurring in the list of reminders on my watch. Each reminder only shows the next time you'll receive it, not whether it's recurring. However, if you set a reminder as recurring, you'll receive it on the schedule you set.
My alarm, notification, or reminder didn't alert me. Charge your watch and try again. If your watch's battery is below 8%, your watch won't vibrate.

I can't cancel the alarm, reminder, or timer I set with Alexa.

The alarm, reminder, or timer I set with Alexa doesn't show up on my watch.

Log out of Alexa, then log back in:

  1. From the Today tab  in the Fitbit app, tap your profile picture  your device image.
  2. Tap Voice Assistant  Amazon Alexa  Logout.
  3. After you log out, tap Amazon Alexa  Login with Amazon. Follow the instructions to log in.
  4. Try again to check or cancel your alarm, reminder, or timer.
My voice assistant uses the wrong language.

My voice assistant has trouble understanding me. If you recently went swimming or got your watch wet, there might be water in the microphone. Wait a few minutes for the microphone to dry, then try again to use your voice assistant.
Alexa asks, "What skill do you want to learn about?" in response to every request. Say "exit" to leave the skill interaction. Alexa will respond to your next request.
